BILLY THOMAS

A ghost, formerly a lawyer and the first great love of Ally's life, he has a tendency to overshadow anyone else she tries to get close to, even after a marriage to someone else, a brain tumor that caused him to behave like a misogynist and now, death, male, 20s

NELLE PORTER

No-nonsense, aggressive and winning lawyer at the Cage/Fish law firm, hard emotional exterior masks vulnerability beneath the surface, angry at her father's abandoning her mother and the family for a younger woman, equally impatient with her mother for putting up with it, thrown by her father's unexpected death, female, 20s

JOHN CAGE

Founding member of law firm with Richard Fish, prone to verbal and physical ticks, an odd little man but a formidable lawyer, once obsessed with Ally, had an ill-fated affair with Nelle Porter, attracted to but gently rebuffed by Renee Radick - even after getting her off on assault charges, 30s

WHIPPER CONE

Former judge, now lawyer at Renee Radick's firm, former lover of Richard Fish, female, 50s

RICHARD FISH

Founding member, with John Cage, of the law firm employing Ally, politically incorrect to put it mildly, obsessed with money, formerly involved with Whipper Cone, currently dating Ling Woo, male, 20s

LING WOO

Asian-American lawyer and generally litigious person, Richard Fish's current lover, just as politically incorrect, sexually insatiable and money-obsessed as Richard, female, 20s

MARK ALBERT

New lawyer at Cage/Fish law firm, interested in Ally, obsessed with dental hygiene, male, 20s

MARILEE

Dental hygienist, rather aggressive in her technique, very interested in Mark Albert (adult, female, any age)
