Boys and their hockey teams. Brad loved Eric Lindros. He didn't see what you and I see -- curly brown hair, brown eyes, six foot four, 235 pounds -- twentysomething millionaire. The little shit. Brad looked at Eric and just saw youth and speed and power. Grace. Lindros playing in top form made Brad believe in God. And watching Brad watching Lindros playing hockey -- Brad lying there in his sick bed, struggling just to get through the day-- the way Brad lit up watching that kid on the ice -- the old Brad -- like he could beat any ten diseases wrapped up in one -- Lindros almost made me believe in God, too. One day in the hospital in New York, we actually found a Flyers game on the TV. Lindros gets the puck -- He shoots, he scores! The crowd goes wild! I'm actually getting into it. I turn and see Brad smiling. And then I notice his chest isn't moving. He doesn't see Lindros. He doesn't see me. He's just sitting, propped up in bed, smiling. I see a nurse standing in the doorway. Brad was wearing this hat.
